Integration of life cycle assessment and life cycle cost using building information modeling: A critical review

Integrating life cycle assessment (LCA) and cost (LCC) is important for assessing balancing the economic environmental impact of buildings, Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers a potential way doing this. However, despite an ample amount published work about integration LCA LCC using BIM, no thorough review this has yet been conducted. This study, therefore, aims to address gap by reviewing relevant peer-reviewed papers involved. After summarizing applications LCA, LCC, four-step methodology framework presented development BIM integrated LCC: (1) defining system boundary LCC; (2) basic parameters inventory analysis; (3) obtaining results; (4) analyzing optimizing results. The results identify three main approaches existing software obtain bills quantities other data, exporting data from model external platform, including information within model. Additionally, in stages possible future research directions are further discussed. study provides insights both industry practitioners academic researchers.
